I HAD to get a new phone. I ordered this Nokia 6103 Phone last night… at my wits end with my current Motorola V300.
The things that really suck about the Motorola V300, as observed by me:
- The menus are sloooooooooooow; navigating the phone book is painful
- The only way to turn off the Battery Low “chirp” is to take the battery out of the phone. No, turning the phone off doesn’t do it. So when the chirp starts up in the middle of the night and I’m nowhere near the charger, it’s a real treat to disassemble my phone in the dark while groggy
- HANG UP! Many times after I hit the Hang Up button there’s this long delayed reaction before it actually hangs up.
- Exit/Ignore. If you’re navigating the menu and a call comes in, the button that WAS the Exit button now becomes Ignore.
- Side buttons to change ring profiles. Sounds like a good idea to be able to change ring styles (silent, loud, vibrate, etc) without having to open the clamshell. This means it’s also very easy for the phone to chirp simply by knocking against something in your pocket.
That’s the gist of it. Frankly, it feels like a phone that was rushed through development without ever spending time with actual consumers…
So I’m excited about the new phone. It’s not top of the line but it’s definitely stocked with the features I want: Bluetooth, decent phone book, free software to sync contacts, and MSN/AOL IM capabilities. It also comes with an FM tuner, which is kind of cool, and a camera, which I couldn’t care less about.
With any luck it’ll be here by the end of the week.
