I feel like this might be the title for all updates from here on out.
I traveled for work yesterday to North Carolina to tour one of Lowe’s Regional Distribution Centers (RDCs). There’s not much I can say about the tour itself because of confidentiality, but WOW. It’s a serious operation. This RDC supplies product to 100+ Lowe’s stores, each of which are giants themselves. The system of conveyor belts throughout the warehouse is extensive, whipping boxes here and there in automated fashion. Unreal. Click on that link above… there’s a pic of one of the distribution centers.
The tour was the highlight of the trip. The travel was not. All the smoothness of driving to PHL and flying to RDU was erased by the flight back. Scheduled departure time: 8:20pm. Actual departure time: 11pm. So I’ve had really shitty luck with flying lately. Since I didn’t get into bed until about 1:30 last night, I slept in until 10am then went into work around 11:15. Thankfully I’m at 100% today sleepwise.
The current house project underway is the master BR closet. The rough plan is:
Remove existing wood supports- Cover over gaps and nail holes with joint compound
- Sand joint compound
- Apply primer
- Paint
- Find studs with fancy new stud finder
- Install closet organizer
- Repeat last three steps for other side of closet
Don’t see any reason we can’t polish that off by the end of the weekend. If it works out OK, we can apply the same lessons to the kitchen pantry… get some more shelves in there, improve our storage situation.
