News: Man knew he had TB before flying to Europe – CNN.com
Anyone following this story? There’s a lot of he-said/she-said, but the gist, as I understand it, is the CDC told him not to fly, and he flew anyway because he didn’t want to ruin his wedding/honeymoon. Then the government put him on the no-fly list. He knew he was on the list, so he flew in to Canada then drove down to the U.S.
My question is: the Border Agents don’t check the no-fly list before clearing someone to enter the country? Yes, I know it’s a no-FLY and not a no-DRIVE list, but still… we don’t at least check the no-fly list? Further, does Canada have access to our no-fly list? If they do, why wasn’t it checked? If they don’t have access to it, why not?
Update: According to this newer article, the man’s attempted entry into the United States triggered an alert but that a border agent let him in anyway. That border agent has been placed on administrative duties for the time being.
