The new home office

Written By: brian - Apr• 07•07

We made a monster trip to Ikea yesterday. It even involved renting a pickup truck from Enterprise, which ended up being a pleasant experience (except for the ~12 mpg fuel efficiency!).

In case you’re not familiar with our old home office (and why would you be?), this is what it looked like:
The old home office

That’s a folding picnic table that came with the house (I’m a tough-as-nails negotiator; we want the picnic table or I’ll walk away from this deal right now!).

First I unboxed everything and staged it on the floor:

Add the frame and legs:

An hour and a half later:

Add computer, lamp, new office chair, and plant:

Later, once it was dark out, add Scotch, and leave the flash off (intentionally):

So I’m settling in. There is a lot of desk space that I’m not quite sure what to do with yet, but I’m confident I’ll grow in to it. Overall, it wasn’t all that bad to put the sucker together. Two screws of the frame didn’t quite “take”, but I don’t believe it has a meaningful impact on the stability of the desk. In fact, it seems over-engineered for such an event.

This looks great! Is this the middle bedroom upstairs? Nice floor, too! New monitor, etc?

It’s the back bedroom. Two windows, lots of light. Very nice.

You need some shelves! IKEA is big on using one’s wall space! :-)

Looks great, though! LOVE IKEA! We are getting one here in Orlando any day now!
