Thanksgiving follow-up

The chicken turned out great, thanks to a recipe by SatanMartha Stewart. It does seem that I overbought, though… 6.2 lb chicken for two people. You think? I didn’t slow roast it. All the slow roasting recipes I found were talking about 3-4 pound birds, and I didn’t know how to make the time adjustments for another 2.25 lbs. We went 425 for 1.5 hrs instead… no fooling around.

Along with that we had oven baked potatoes. cranberry sauce, and a vegetable medley (ok, actually frozen soup vegetables). And for dessert, apple pie. Very nice.

Today we braved Black Friday™ parkings lots to have sushi and visit Home Depot. The day before yesterday I put some pasta in the microwave and had just hit Start when there was a loud popping noise from the oven. I was still alive (but probably infused with a near-lethal amount of radiation), but the microwave was not. It made unhappy noises and refused to excite water particles any more. Thus the trip to Home Depot today to buy a new one.

And here she is:

Isn’t she beautiful? Our old microwave kinda sucked. There wasn’t a ‘Minute+’ button, the range lights kept burning out (should a lightbulb last longer than two weeks?), the range fan was ridiculously loud, there was no turntable… I could go on. No more. On December 2, we’ll be a family that owns a microwave manufactured after I graduated high school.

Update: A photo of the old microwave.
