I was half way through this morning’s shower when that song “Easy (Like Sunday Morning)” popped into my head. I started singing it (the few lyrics I know) and it turns out that it still sounds decent. Any singing voice I had when I was young has been corrupted by 14 years of no practice and no instruction, so I’m always surprised when my voice sounds pleasant even to me.
Then the song came on the car radio while I was waiting at the Wendy’s drive-through. I have one of those car stereos that displays title and artist of the playing song, but it said “The Commodores”… and man, it sure sounded like Lionel Ritchie. To the point where I was sure that the stereo — which never displays wrong information — was incorrect. Confused.
The Internets straightened me out. Evidently Lionel Ritchie was IN The Commodores. Now it all makes sense. Didn’t know that. Tricky.
None of this helps me get that song out of my head.
Faith No More covered it in the mid-1990s if you’re up for something a little different.
It happened again today. Easy Like Sunday Morning. Make it stop.
